About Marlies van Strien
Marlies van Strien mainly handles economic criminal law, focusing on environmental criminal law, issues of criminal liability under the Working Conditions Act and cases involving accidents on and/or work on the railways. In this connection, she advises various medium-sized and large companies as well as government departments. In addition, as a member of the Lawyers’ Pool of the National Police, she has for many years assisted police officers in investigations concerning shooting incidents or application of the Violence Instruction and assisted various lawyers and civil-law notaries in disciplinary and criminal cases.
Education and career
Marlies was one of the founders of our firm in 1992. She has been a partner and member of the partnership since 1994 and practices from our The Hague office. From 2003-2011, she was a member and portfolio holder for Criminal Law of the then Supervisory Board of the Bar Association of The Hague and chair of the Hague Criminal Law Advisory Committee. Marlies studied Criminal Law at Erasmus University Rotterdam. After graduating, she worked at Holla Advocaten and subsequently at Dutilh van der Hoeven & Slager, now Nauta Dutilh. Marlies taught criminal procedural law in vocational training for lawyers for many years and was a member of the editorial board of the Sdu Commentary on Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure and a member of the Supervisory Committee of TBS clinic (forensic hospital) de Kijvelanden. She was a regular speaker at seminars and (international) conferences, was a guest lecturer at Erasmus University Rotterdam and gives presentations at various companies on criminal liability in the event of (major) incidents.
