Over the past years, the number of cases involving computer-related crime has shown a sizeable increase. Typical offences are hacking (unauthorized terminal access), spreading viruses and forging computer data. Furthermore, computers are often used as a means for traditional offences, such as infringement upon copyrights, extortion, threats and libel. Investigation services too, increasingly use digital technology. In almost every major investigation, data flows are tapped and endeavours are made at retrieving 'deleted' data from computers. The Internet has no boundaries. Internationalisation brings forth specific legal problems. All of this results in a growing need for legal assistance by an advocate who knows his way around computer-related crime. Of course, external experts may be approached in order to provide technical support.
