Our practice: Advice and Litigation

Sjöcrona • Van Stigt assist both corporations and their management as well as members of the general public, who have come into contact with either the 'regular' police or 'special' investigation departments and agencies of the Ministry of Finance (Fiscal Information and Investigation Service-Economic Investigations Agency (FIOD-ECD)), the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food quality (General Inspection Service (AID)) and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment (Social Information and Investigation Service (SIOD)). Our advocates are regularly involved in preparing clients for such contacts. We are very experienced in providing instructions and training in order to prepare for interrogations.

Of course, rendering legal assistance in court is also part of our core-business.

Separate attention should go out to our advisory practice. Criminal legislation is comprehensive and complex; for the most part members of the general public, entrepreneurs and even corporate lawyers lack sufficient insight. Which is where we are brought in to scrutinise criminal responsibilities, even when there is no indication, as yet, that the police and judicial authorities suspect the client is involved in criminal activities.

For example, we analyse intended stock transactions against the background of rules and regulations on insider trading. We are also brought in to screen corporate structures and to set up internal corporate guidelines.

Be it through advice or litigation, we always aim to prevent our client running the risk of criminal liability.

Thereto, our firm has specialists in all areas of criminal law. Thus, we are able to act swiftly and effectively both in cases of a general criminal nature as well as in more specific cases with financial, economic, fiscal or cross-border characteristics.
